Brahman

The son of Lord Varuna once asked his dad what is Brahmam. (Varunam pitaram upassara. Adheehi bagavo brahmmedhi. Varuna replied brahmam cannot be explained by words. It is something to be experienced by doing penance (thapas). Thapso thapiyatha. The boy left home and sat on penance. After a few day he returned to his father and said I now know what is Brahmam. He went on, Annam Brahmmedi Vyajaanad. Food is Brahmam. He said food sustains life and from life everything is generated. Hence food is supreme and consequently it is Brahmam. Father Varuna said Brahmam has to be experienced by thapas. The boy again left and after some days of penance returned back saying that life (Prana) is Brahmam as life is the cause of everything. From one life other lives are formed and the universe is full of life. Father Varuna said that Brahmam has to be experienced by thapas. Thinking that he has again erred, the boy again left for thapas. He was back after a few days of penance and this time he said it is mind (Mana) that is Brahmam. He argued that mind regulates and controls lives and all other things in the world. Mind is the source of energy and all activities. Father Varuna repeated : Brahmam has to be realised by penance. The boy left for thapas again and returned saying that Vijnanam i.e. knowledge is the real Brahmam. He substantiated his claim saying knowledge is the route cause for everything else and it is because of knowledge that the universe is sustained. Father Varuna replied. Brahmam has to be known by doing penance. The boy left as usual for doing thapas and did not return for a long time. Varuna then went in search of the boy and found him completely merged in pure undiluted happiness oblivious of the surroundings. Father brought him to normal senses and asked him about Brahmam. Boy said “Anantho Brahmmedi Vyajanaadh, meaning I realise that BRAHMAM IS NOTHING BUT PUREST FORM OF ANANDHAM.

Poornamrita Swami jis Satsang

Life is a search

Life is a Search, a constant search.

Search for something one knows not.
There is a deep urge to search.
But one does not know what one is seeking for.
Whatever we get is not going to give us any satisfaction.
Everything looks beautiful from a distance.

From the earth, the moon looks very beautiful.
Poets are singing about the beauty of the moon.
They might get disappointed if they happen to be there on the Moon. Those who have reached the moon, say that Earth is much more beautiful.

The same thing happens in the case of lovers.
Once they start their relationship, it becomes impossible to be away from each other.
So many phone calls and emails.
But when they become closer and closer to each other,
and learn more and more about each other,
they will come to know more about the other person’s weaknesses and defects.

And finally love disappears after their marriage.
(Some times even before the marriage.)
Then, no phone calls, no mails, or no smiles.
It becomes boring to spend some time together.
Once they were longing to meet each other.

They used to say,
“I cannot live without seeing you darling. You are so beautiful.”
After marriage they would say,
“I am getting bored, could you please go away. I cannot continue to see your ugly face.”
Even the most attractive object will make us feel bored after some time.
Whatever we get can become meaningless the very moment we have achieved it.
We start searching Again.
Dissatisfied with what we have, we struggle to get more.

We are living in this world with lots of selfish desires.
We are not ready to share our fortunes.
If we are ready to share, more will come to us.
That is the law of nature.

Is it possible to get complete satisfaction and peace?
Mahatmas like Amma say, “yes.”
However, we can enjoy the beauty of life only if we know certain secrets of life.
There are three forms of knowledge.
The first is intellectual knowledge,
which is in fact not knowledge, but only information.

The second is emotional knowledge,
which is also not really knowledge.
It gives a mental state in which man feels he has known something,
but there is no transformation.

The first is objective, born out of science.
The second is subjective, the source of all arts.
The third is neither.
It is beyond both.
This third is the real knowledge.
It is achieved through meditation.

Life is like a movie.
God has given us a role to act.
He is the movie director of our life.
He knows which role is suitable for us.
We have proven our skills through so many old movies in which we have acted before.
That was in our previous lives.
God was watching all those movies.
Another chance is given to improve our actions.
If God feels that we are not fit to take the role of a human being,
he may give us the role of an animal or bird.

Fortunately he has selected us to act the role of a human being.
Because of that he is expecting from us much more than animals.
We are suppose to express human qualities like love compassion, patience, etc.
We should always have a smiling face.
Only human beings can do that.
Animal can cry, show their anger and affection.
But they cannot laugh, except in cartoon movies.
They cannot enjoy jokes.

God has given the power of discrimination only to human beings.
After getting this human body we should know the importance of our role.
It is not very important, where we are born or
where we are brought up.
It is not necessary to worry about the role,
which is given to us.
Some people are get the role of a rich man.
Some get the role of a poor person.
Some may play the role of a beggar.
No matter which role we have, God is watching our performance,
how we are overcoming the difficulties and utilising this opportunity to serve the world.
We can prove our skills more in difficult situations.

The rich man should make his role beautiful by helping the poor.
Even beggar can become an emperor, if he tries to get the grace of God.
Even in an ordinary movie a person acting the role of a beggar
can get an Oscar for how well he portrayed his character.

It is not very important whether we are rich or poor.
How we are using our skills to overcome difficulties of life
and how our life becomes a contribution to the world–
God is watching only that.

But we are making the same mistakes again and again.
Then the director, himself/herself, has to act and show the actors
how to give perfection to a particular role.
That is what Amma is doing.

Padmini

Padmini (June 12, 1932 - September 24, 2006) was an Indian actress and trainedBharathanatyam dancer who acted in over 250 Indian movies. "Padmini" in Sanskrit means "She who sits on the lotus" and refers to the goddess Lakshmi. It is common for people to be named after deities in India, and this actress is today more well known than Padmini as a form of the Goddess.

Apart from Hindi she also acted in films in other Indian regional languages viz. Tamil andMalayalam. She was fluent in all of the four mentioned languages, and was able to use her own voice to dub the films between these languages. She became the most popular actress and dancer of the Tamil film industry and most of her movies are shot in Tamil.

Born and raised in Thiruvananthapuram(Trivandrum) in what was then the princely state ofTravancore (now the Indian state of Kerala), Padmini was the second daughter of Thankappan Pillai and Saraswathi Amma. Her sisters, Lalitha and Ragini, were also renowned film actresses. Together, the threesome were known as the Travancore sisters. Actress Sukumari is a first cousin of the Lalitha, Padmini and Ragini (their mothers are sisters).

Padmini and her sisters were disciples of the noted Indian dancer Guru Gopinath . They learntKerala natanam style of dancing from him. The noted film director, P. Subrahmaniam, noticed her talents while she was presenting 'Parijatha Pushpapaharanam 'in Trivandrum.

At the age of 17, Padmini was cast as the heroine in Kalpana (1950), launching her film career. She acted in films for nearly 30 years.

Padmini was renowned for her linguistic ability, and dubbed her own voice onto versions of her movies destined for the Tamil, Hindi andMalayalam markets. This cross-cultural linguistic ability made her a very significant figure in the history of 20th-century moviemaking in India.

Padmini co-starred with several of the most well-known actors in Indian film, including Sivaji Ganesan, M.G. Ramachandran, Raj Kapoor, Prem Nazir, Rajkumar and Gemini Ganesan. She acted with Sivaji Ganesan in almost 60 films.

She acted in almost 400 Tamil films. Ezhai padum paadu was her first film in Tamil. Her association with Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan starts ith the film Panam in 1952. Some of her noted Tamil films include Anbu, Thankapadumai, Thillana Mohanambal, Viyatnam veedu, Ethir Parathadhu, Mankayar thilakam , Poove Poo chooda vaa.

Some of her popular Malayalam films include Prasanna, Snehaseema, Vivaahitha, Adhyaapika, Kumaarasambhavam, Nokkethadoorath Kannumnatt, Vasthuhara, Dolar, and many others.

In two of her popular Bollywood films - Mera Naam Joker and Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai - she was paired against the legendary Bollywood star, Raj Kapoor. Her other Bollywood films included Payal (1957), Babubhai Mistry's Mahabharat (1965), etc.

Her most famous film was Thillana Mohanambal, a Tamil film where she plays a dancer competing against a musician to see whose skills are better. She dances and he plays the Nadhaswaram.

Padmini was also awarded the title "Naattiya Pehroli" (Danseuse), honouring her contribution to Bharathanatyam in cinema.

After her marriage to Dr Ramachandran, a US-based physician, in 1961 Padmini retired, though temporarily, from films and focused on married life and refining her classical dance. She settled in the United States and in 1977 opened her classical dance school in New Jersey, The 'Padmini School of Fine Arts'. Her school is today one of the largest Indian Classical Dance institutions in America.[citation needed]

Padmini passed away from a heart attack in the Chennai Apollo Hospital on September 24, 2006.
